NEW YORK (AP) _ Taking its place at the New York International Auto show among the Bentleys, Maseratis, Toyotas and other offerings is a boxy, yellow vehicle that can't be mistaken for anything other than what it is -- a taxi cab.
And Patrick Ayoub says that's what he set out to achieve when he designed the so called Standard Taxi, which will be making its debut on New York City streets by the end of the year.
Ayoub, who's also had experience with sports cars like the BMW Z1, says the change of focus made it a fun project, and resulted in something useful.
It's been designed from the ground up to be a taxi. Features include easily replaceable doors, lights, fenders and bumpers, as well as easy access, including a wheelchair ramp.
