NEW YORK (AP) -- A former local New York City sportscaster has
been indicted on charges he raped a 14-year-old runaway working as
Marvell Scott pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of rape,
patronizing a prostitute and endangering the welfare of a child.
Manhattan prosecutors say he encountered a pimp in Times Square
at 3:45 p.m. on June 5, 2008. They say he paid the pimp and took
the 14-year-old and another 16-year-old girl to his apartment where
he raped the younger girl.
Defense attorney Richard Portale (Por-TAHL'-EE) says no sexual
contact occurred and called the incident "a ruse."
Scott had worked as a sportscaster for the local ABC affiliate
until last summer. He's a medical doctor who went to Haiti to help
treat injured earthquake victims.
