NEW YORK (AP) - Harry Potter is still the magic ingredient for selling books.
The British publisher of J.K. Rowling's fantasy series says that the final book in the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,'' sold a record number of copies in the United Kingdom in the first 24 hours. The total topped more than 2.6 million.
In the U.S., Barnes & Noble says a record 1.8 million copies were purchased in the first two days.
Yesterday, Scholastic said more than eight million hard covers sold in the United States during the first 24 hours.
Seven of the top ten books on Amazon-dot-com's best seller list today are Potters, including paperback and hardcover editions of
“Half-Blood Prince” and a boxed set of the entire series is coming out in September.
