Karl Rove Resigns

Karl Rove's announcement that he's leaving his post as President Bush's chief political strategist isn't silencing his critics.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says Rove built a political strategy that ''has left the country more divided'' and has left ''the American people more shut out from their government.''

Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, whose wife was the CIA officer whose identity was leaked, says Rove's departure ''signals the final chapter'' in that episode.

But fellow Bush adviser Karen Hughes calls Rove ''a passionate advocate for the president and his policies.'' And the Senate's top Republican, Mitch McConnell, says Rove made ''an enormous contribution'' to the country and the Republican Party.

Rove announced today that he will leave his post at the end of August. He's been with Bush since the beginning of the president's political career.
