A local man is sitting behind bars, all because of a hoax!
Tallahassee police arrested 25-year-old David Barton right across the street from
Lake Ella Shopping Plaza supermarket where he left a package that was deemed suspicious. Officers made the arrest after recognizing him from surveillance footage and witness descriptions.
Barton was arrested just after nine Monday night. The plaza was blocked off for hours as police investigated the package.
Police say a takeout food box with obscure writing with several rubber bands wrapped around it was found near the businesses.
Officials say they ultimately found that the package contained a bunch of papers.
Barton is currently behind bars at the Leon County Jail. He is being charged with placing a hoax device and is being held on a $1,000 bond.
