Owner, Dog Flee After Dog Attacks Woman

NOKOMIS, Fla. (AP) - Sarasota County Animal Control officers are looking for a dog that bit off the tip of a woman's thumb outside a Nokomis charity.

Goodwill manager Paige Belser was standing next to a woman's blue pickup truck, discussing a donation, when a black and white dog in the passenger seat launched at her.

Belser ran bleeding into the store. When she came back outside, the dog and the truck were gone.

The tip of Belser's thumb was bitten off in last week's attack. She is getting rabies shots and needs reconstructive surgery. She says she can't return to work because of the risk of infection.

Belser says the dog's owner has not stepped forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Animal Services.
