ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- A Clarke County Superior Court judge has
sentenced a former Athens journalist and educator to five years in
prison for possessing child pornography.
Authorities say 65-year-old Elton Felix Manzione also will serve
five years on probation. Lawton Stephens, chief judge of the
Western Judicial Circuit, handed the sentence down Wednesday.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Manzione in
February 2007, after following up on a report by the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Internet provider
Yahoo had found Manzione's IP address was used to post child porn.
Manzione was a reporter for the defunct Athens Observer and
taught at both the University of Georgia and at the Watkinsville
college campus that was then run by Truett-McConnell College.
