ATLANTA (AP) -- Morehouse School of Medicine has been rated
number one in the country among schools training primary care
physicians to work in underserved areas.

The rankings are part of a first-ever study of U.S. medical
schools in the area of social mission, a role emphasized as
critical to improving the country's overall health care. The study
was funded with a grant from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation and
appears in the June 15 Annals of Internal Medicine.

According to the study, graduates from the top-ranked schools
are the most likely to practice the kind of medicine needed under
the national health care overhaul. Morehouse School of Medicine was
established to recruit and train minority and individuals from
disadvantaged backgrounds.
