JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- East Tennessee State University has
released the second in a series of documentary films that examine
the food of Appalachia.
"Beans All the Way: A Story of Pintos and Persistence" covers
The Bean Barn in Greeneville, Tenn., going back to when the
business first opened as Britt's Grill shortly after World War II.
According to the film's producers, the documentary stresses the
importance of beans to a community, a culture and an entire region.
It describes soup beans and cornbread as "the iconic,
dollar-stretching, belly-filling, soul-enriching meal of Southern
