TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) --
Florida labor officials have their fingers crossed that June's unemployment numbers will show an improvement for a third straight month.

The state's unemployment figures in May improved to 11.7
percent, but that included more than 32,000 temporary U.S. Census
jobs. Florida's unemployment bottomed out at a record 12.3 percent
in March when more than 1.1 million people were jobless.

Roughly one million Floridians remain sidelined.

Economist Rebecca Rust said last month that Friday's report
would reflect more hard numbers on the estimated economic effect of
the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. She said it would be
complicated because of a required accounting of those in the
fishing industry -- many who are often missed in such surveys.
