Atchison Attempts Suicide in Jail

SANDUSKY, Mich. (AP) - A Florida prosecutor who authorities say flew to Michigan for an expected sexual encounter with a five-year-old
girl has tried to hang himself in his jail cell.

John D.R. Atchison was being held on federal child sex solicitation charges at the Sanilac County Jail, 75 miles north of Detroit.

A cell mate shouted when he saw Atchison trying to hang himself
with a sheet. Guards stopped him.

Atchison is an assistant U.S. attorney in Pensacola, Florida.

Authorities say he went to Michigan to meet what he thought was the mother of a 5-year-old girl with whom he arranged to have sex. The woman was a detective working in an Internet sex sting operation.

TOO BAD, THAT SICKO FREAK SHOULD HAVE SAVED US TAX DOLLARS SOME $$$$. ONE LESS SEXUAL PREDATOR THE BETTER. YOU GET JAIL TIME IF YOU KILL A TURKEY OUT OF SEASON BUT YOU CAN MOLEST A KID & BE OUT ON "PROBATION" (TO MOLEST ANOTHER ONE) IN A WEEK OR SO. WE NEED TO FIX THIS SYSTEM, ITS A SICKNESS & THEY WONT STOP, SO US PARENTS NEED TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His suicide attempt isn't necessarily an admission of guilt, or an indication that he feels guilt; more likely it is evidence that he's afraid of what he has to look forward to, and mortified by the damage done to his reputation.

I'm of two minds here, 1. It's a shame he failed, it would have saved the taxpayers the expense of prosecuting him and housing him for the next 20 years. 2. I'm glad he failed, he should not get off so lightly and should should be made to suffer (at least as much) as he would have caused that presumed child. As someone already observed, he has bragged about previous "experiences" with young children. Give him to the parents of his victims, if he survives, then castrate him and feed him to the general prison population. Be sure too tell the other prison "guests" about his previous job title, I'm sure they will be extra impressed.

My daughter in MI (who has a young daughter) says he should be castrated, then sent to jail to be the plaything of inmates who would just love to 'play' with an assistant U.S. attorney!

Suicide is in part an admission of guilt . Child molesters deserve to be hung. Why did the gaurds stop him ? He could have hung himself and saved a lot of tax money for the trial.
