Valdosta, GA - Today, around lunch time deputies were called to the Wendy’s restaurant located at 3460 Madison Highway in regards to a black-in-color handbag that had been left on a counter by a man they believed to be of Middle Eastern decent.

The owner of the package was unable to be located as he had left the property altogether without making a purchase. After deputies arrived, the business was evacuated and a bomb sniffing canine from the Valdosta Police Department was called to the scene.

The canine searched the business and gave a positive alert on the package indicating that at least one of several specific odors were inside or had been near the bag.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted and the assistance of the Bomb Disposal Unit was requested. Agents and equipment responded to the scene and the bag was removed by the use of a robot.

Once the bag was safely outside of the business it was rendered safe. An examination of the contents of the bag revealed nothing more than that of a shaving kit and a prescription medication that contained Zinc, which could have caused the alert by the canine.
The business returned to normal operations around 3:00.
