New York, NY (AP) - After seven years as a couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are finally engaged.

Pitt's manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, confirmed the news to The Associated Press in an email Friday.

There isn't a wedding date yet. The engagement "is a promise for the future," Pett-Dante said.

Pitt, 48, and Jolie, 36, have six children together, including three who are adopted.

"Their kids are very happy," Pett-Dante also said.

Pitt and Jolie have been partners since they began a relationship while working on the film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

Jolie was briefly married to Billy Bob Thornton, but they divorced in 2003. She was also married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller before they divorced in 1999.

Pitt was previously married to Jennifer Aniston, but they divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage.

Jolie won an Oscar for her role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted." Pitt was recently nominated for an Academy Award for his role in last year's "Moneyball."

the thing to me is....the bible is plainly against living together and having kids and such with out marriage. they need to get things right for themselves before God first and foremost. i know they are among to so called super couples and that is another reason they need to be right with their relationship since so many people put such great store in what these people do and think that what ever they do is "the" way to do things-no questions asked........

Their own little part of Hollyworld. Get real. Why would they find a need to get engaged, find a need to get married, or find a need to tell anybody else. Not too many people care. Get into the real world.

It makes people like you click on pages to leave comments, increasing their page views and increasing ad revenue. This is what the media really is all about - making money. If you really don't care, why would you click on the page to leave a comment. Also they said they would never get married until gays were allowed to get married. Somewhere in here I detect a lie. Of course what do you expect from Hollywood.
