TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) -- Rebels say they've driven the last pro-government forces from the center of Libya's third-largest city.

One Libyan soldier says morale among Moammar Gadhafi's troops fighting in Misrata has collapsed, with some abandoning their posts.

Still, Gadhafi's forces managed to unleash a barrage of shells and rockets at Misrata on Sunday. Doctors say the incoming rounds have killed 32 and wounded dozens in two days. The attacks counter Libyan government claims that the army is holding its fire into the western city to allow for negotiations between local tribal chiefs and rebels.

The battle for Misrata has claimed hundreds of lives in the past two months.

In Washington, three members of the Senate Armed Services Committee say more should be done to drive Gadhafi out of power, including targeting his inner circle with airstrikes.

However, in Rome, Pope Benedict has offered an Easter prayer for diplomacy to prevail over warfare in Libya.
