MIAMI (AP) -- Miami police say a man stabbed his ex-girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter and tried to make her death look like a suicide.
Police Chief Manuel Orosa said Monday that Miguel Ruiz Lobo did not get along with Martha Guzman, who had convinced her mother to break up with him.
Authorities say the girl's mother found her June 25 with a knife in her throat. Police tell The Miami Herald that Lobo tried to make the slaying look like a suicide but sliced through tendons in the girl's wrists, which would have made it impossible for her to stab herself in the throat.
Lobo was held Tuesday without bail on charges of first-degree murder and burglary. Miami-Dade County jail records did not show whether he had an attorney.
