HOLLYWOOD, FL - October 13, 2011 -
A small plane made an emergency landing on the Florida Turnpike north of Miami, stopping traffic for about five hours.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the plane landed in the turnpike's northbound lanes Wednesday afternoon near Hollywood. The plane was damaged but didn't hit any vehicles or cause any other crashes. The reason for the landing wasn't immediately known.
The pilot, 49-year-old Alain Jaubert, and a passenger, 50-year-old Donato Pinto, were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
Broward County Aviation Department spokesman Gregory Meyer says
the 2008 Socata TBM 700 departed from the Opa Locka airport and was
headed to the North Perry Airport.
The single-engine plane's tail number is registered to a leasing company in Miami.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
