MIAMI (AP) -- Authorities say an elderly South Florida woman was
injured after a pressure cooker exploded and severed her leg.

A Miami Fire-Rescue spokesman says the pressure cooker fell onto
the floor and exploded, sending pieces into the air.

One of the shards severed the 79-year-old woman's leg above her
ankle. Officials say she could have bled to death but a quick-thinking man used a belt as a tourniquet until paramedics arrived at the home.

The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma
Center and is expected to survive.
