Associated Press Release
VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) -- A south Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole on charges of child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and rape.
A judge in Lowndes County sentenced 60-year-old Carter Arnold Wednesday, a day after the man -- who represented himself in the case -- cross-examined the 13-year-old victim.
The Valdosta Daily Times reports the victim was his girlfriend's daughter, and he threatened to destroy the girl's toys if she didn't submit to his advances.
District Attorney Meredith Brasher said the teen being cross-examined by her abuser made the case more difficult, but called the girl's bravery and composure during the case "truly phenomenal."
Arnold has already served a 36-year sentence for murder in Fulton County.
