MIAMI (AP) - November 9, 2011 -
A lawsuit has been filed in Miami against the parents of a teenager who fatally shot a man who was trying to steal a WaveRunner from their waterfront property.
The negligence lawsuit filed Wednesday seeks unspecified damages from Jeffrey and Yasmine Davis. Authorities say their 14-year-old son used a shotgun to kill 20-year-old Reynaldo Munoz in May while he tried to steal the WaveRunner from the Davis' dock.
Munoz family attorney Juan Lucas Alvarez says the shooting was
unjustified even if Munoz tried to take the watercraft. Davis
attorney Jeffrey Weiner says Munoz put the family in fear and that
the shooting was justified on their own property.
Police and prosecutors are still investigating the case. No
charges have been filed.
