Man Charged with Animal Cruelty is Sentenced

Gadsden County - June 1, 2012 - 7:43pm

Yanco Peterson was sentenced in a Gadsden County courtroom on May 18. He was found guilty on six of the 24 counts of animal cruelty charges against him. The judge sentenced him to five years in prison, and was given credit for the 689 days he's already served.

In 2010, Peterson was arrested when sheriff's deputies confiscated dogs during a dog fighting ring bust in Gadsden County. Peterson said he was only a breeder.

On June 29th, deputies came to Peterson's house at 231 L and M Lane in Quincy to recover stolen items, and found 34 dogs chained up in his backyard, and evidence that they've been trained for dog fighting.

At last check the dogs were being held at the animal shelter and faced being put down if they were deemed too aggressive. Peterson claimed he simply breeds puppies and that any scarring on the dogs was accidental.

Wow "animals don't have souls"...if anyone should ever compare accidentally running over an animal to someone purposly torturing, killing and breeding fight dogs for the sake of entertainment clearly doesn't have a soul...people on average who support animal rights also support human rights too dummy. Get your head on straight. No one here is saying animals are more superior...youre the tool who is supporting a criminal.

Its truly disgusting to see comments defending this type garbage, not harsh enough. The same was said about a fight case on Bermuda ave from which the sweetest dog ever came from, he graciously holds a spot on the ASPCA dog fight magazine. We know him as Winston and he is the first dog I have ever seen have a nightmare. The connection between people that abuse animal that lead to them hurting people are scientific fact. I own previous fight dogs from the leslie meyers cases and it makes sick to hear these dirtbags family trying to say what good people they are. Dont worry they are keeping your seat warm in hell.

how many pit bull puppies did he have chained to a fence with evidence of dog fighting? scarring on puppies? 30 something puppies chained up. oh yeah he's a legit dog breeder, sure i'll believe that when hell freezes over. usually how someone treats animals good indication how they treat humans, good he got the max sentence. i have 3 rescue dogs, can't belive ANYONE would think it is ok to abuse children or animals, scarey world.

U r wrong he was a nice person and would have gave his last for anyone.out of 80 dogs 2 had a scar not because of fighting because 1 dog mouth got caught in some fence wire. The raid wasn't about the dogs(proven fact)it was about buying stolen property from someone he trusted that rated him out.5 years in prison cool he will take that all day because he is a man and he know he was wrong (not about the dogs).People remember u don't get the whole story from the news or here the whole story from the officers. That's why we shall not judge.

Its a shame people commenting on something they do not know what is really going on.The animal cruelty charge was the only charge the police can put on him.He brought stolen property from some boys who was breaking in people houses. They police wanted him to snitch but he wouldn't.So the police got mad and charge him with over 50 different charges including dealing with stolen property, drugs and etc.The police knew the true but wanted a confession about who he brought the stolen goods from. All the charges was drop except the animal cruelty. He sold and raise dogs for a living. All the money spent on them he never got a chance to make his money back($20000).Must of them where puppies.Plus he had a full time job. SO THY SHALL NOT JUDGE

This poor excuse for a human being better be thankful I wasn't the judge. If I had been, he would be the one chained up in the sun, with no water, food, and soiling on himself. Then, and only then, I would cast my decision to through his sorry A@@ in jail for an undetermined amount of time.

Finally a Judge that does something besides slap someone on the wrist. If it was up to me he would never see the light of day again. We may not have won the war yet but at least we got a small victory.
