The indictment of a Tallahassee business owner has folks in the area asking a lot of questions.

We talked to people who say they know Cloud. Many did not want to comment on camera, but one area business owner told us, quote "They are good people. I believe they just got caught up."

_____________________________________________________

A Tallahassee business owner is indicted on 18 counts of filing false tax returns.

A federal grand jury indicted Georgia Ann Cloud, owner of Cloud's Tax Service and Business Center, for falsifying tax records. The grand jury believes this was done in order to receive money from the 2008 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit program for herself and 17 clients.

New homeowners who qualified for the credit would eligible to receive $7,500.

Court documents don't clarify if Cloud and her clients received the money from the government or if the fraud was caught during the paperwork process. Those documents also show Cloud filed for bogus educational credits for some of her clients.

Officials have not stated if Cloud's clients were notified of this indictment. Cloud has not been arrested for this yet.

Cloud's Tax Service and Business Center is located on Ridge Road. The business number has been disconnected. Cloud could not be reached for comment.

If you make a purchase online do you pay the sales tax on that purchase ? That's tax cheating. Cheating on taxes is the American way ! I would but I would get cought in a heart beat. I, uh, don't pay the sales tax for online purchases though. Yes, it is required by law.

This is disgraceful that Americans would not respect the Federal Tax system and then complain that there is not enough money in the budget for entitlements. The top 10% of Americans pay 70% of the Federal budget and more than 50% do not pay taxes at all. We need the flat tax to get rid of the complicated tax system and all the cheaters. EVERYBODY should contribute to the Federal Budget and if they did, we would not be in such a financial mess and of course we need to stop paying for THREE WARS.

The same person that was just charged with 18 counts by the federal government is still in business. The business name has changed but the same Owner and her Husband are still owners of this tax office and same location.I really wish someone would do something about what they are getting away with. Where's law enforcement????

I certainly am not defending her actions! She is a crook and should never prepare taxes again. The "victims" also were in the wrong. The true victims are all of us that pay our taxes, as these fraudulent refunds come out of our pockets. My comment about illiteracy was made so that maybe people would check their posts before clicking send so they don't look like complete idiots. Really ticked some people off there. As for being scared and posting under 2 names...rediculous. These are all fictitious names and are usually whimsical additions to the post themselves. What on earth would I have to be scared of anyway?

You misspelled "ridiculous" although I agree with the point that education is the key to a successful financial life and without it someone will have a difficult time demanding more pay. We need to go to a flat tax for many reasons and this article is an example of one of them.

I know a tax office here in town that make fake W-2 forms for people that don't have a job and they would make up dependants for these people and the would get a income tax check for about $6,000 and have not worked in about 4-5 years. They were also doing the first home buyer scam too.

I know, and it makes me sick. I pay through the nose. I also know individuals whom work 1 full-time job, and 1 part-time job, only report the dollars earned from the part-time job, get the earned income credit, SSI and food stamps, and so forth. They sink the ship sometimes, because they give the SSN of a child, a nephew or cousin(they don't care to mention the income from the full-time job)...Others are just super lucky! I remember about 10 years ago a man was selling SSN's with a new card for $50.00. I don't remember where I was because I'm a contractor(maybe 75 employers, since then).
