Thomas County, GA - With just a few clicks of the mouse on Craigslist, investigators were able to track down three men, accused in a string of lawn equipment thefts in Thomas, Colquitt and Tift Counties.
"The photograph was actually taken at the location of where the property was stolen from and you could see they were wearing gloves so they wouldn't leave any finger prints at the location," said Lt. Tim Watkins with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office.
Colquitt County Sheriff's Deputies called the seller, Quinterius Freeman, pretending to be an interested buyer.
When they met up with Freeman, they not only found the stolen zero-turn mower, but it was on a trailer that had been reported stolen in Thomas County earlier that day.
"Those lawn mowers are approximately $8,000-$10,000 a piece," Lt. Watkins said. "They're commercial grade mowers and they were selling them for a third of the actual value they are."
Investigators say one of the suspects, Dykurius Edwards, accidentally left his cellphone at the scene of one of the thefts. Freeman's brother, Anthony Shannon was also involved.
"We went to one of the suspects, Mr. Freeman's parent's house in Ochlocknee, and recovered a second stolen lawn mower, a stolen chain saw, and we were able to arrest the three guys involved."
Deputies are still looking for several other items, including a stolen dirt bike.
All three men are facing several felony theft charges in Thomas and Colquitt County. Investigators say they could face more charges in Tift County.
