Associated Press Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- A western New York man has been accused of kidnapping a Florida woman who escaped by feigning asthma, convincing hospital officials not to release her to him and calling a boyfriend to return her to her home state.
An FBI agent says in court papers the abduction came to light because 19-year-old Brandon Todd of Naples in Ontario County had called him earlier this year to say he had information about a sex trafficking ring.
The agent says subsequent calls from the boyfriend and another man led to the woman, who said Todd had abducted her in San Diego by threatening her.
She told the agent Todd took her to New York against her will and repeatedly raped her.
Todd has been held on a federal kidnapping charge since July 10. He was in the process Monday of asking for a new lawyer.
