Greg Reid and his father did not stop for questions when leaving the State Court of Lowndes County Wednesday morning.

The former star Florida State football player entered a "Not Guilty" Plea in his arraignment. He is charged with possession of marijuana and driving on a suspended license. Those charges stem from a traffic stop in Valdosta in July.

In his arraignment he requested a court appointed attorney. Now the judge will have to decide if he qualifies based on such criteria as financial need.

"If he does not, than he will have to decide whether he will hire his own attorney or if he will represent himself at trial," said Justin Cabral, Solicitor General of Lowndes County. "At this point he has entered a plea of "Not Guilty"".

Reid was a star defensive back for Florida State until he was dismissed from the team in August for trouble with the law. He then transferred to Valdosta State.

The charges addressed on Wednesday are from his July arrest. But he was also arrested in 2011 for lying to police about the whereabouts of his scooter. Those charges were later dropped.

Reid saw Valdosta State as his chance to prove to the coaches that he was ready to be a star on and off the field. But he tore his ACL before his first game. Now he is out for the rest of the season.

"I think there is no question that his mind is right and that an opportunity was taken away from him at Florida State," said Valdosta State Head Coach David Dean. "His role has become kind of a mentoring type thing. Teaching young guys different techniques and how to practice."

It is unknown how long it will take the judge to rule on Reid's request for a court appointed attorney, but it will likely come in the next 30 days. Of course that means his next court date is not set yet.

Coach Dean says Reid will have one more year of eligibility, so he could still play college football next year.
