Bobby Hawkins was found dead inside his Douglas Ferry road home on December 5th by an apparent gunshot wound.

Few details have been released about the case, but Hawkins' family and friends are remembering him in a different way.

Family members are still in a state of shock over the murder of 53-year-old Bobby Hawkins.

"So untimely...It's like a nightmare, you know? I don't know that we've woke up yet..." says John Hawkins. Hawkins' older brother, John, took this week off to grieve and handle the arrangements. He's still struggling to make sense of what has happened. "I don't know how many times I've reached down to pick up the cell phone or phone to say 'hey, let's do something.'" John says he and his brother were close growing up together in a military household. "Bobby always had to be my best friend."

Bobby Hawkins joined the Air Force for a few years before receiving a medical discharge.
Family and friends describe him as someone who loved children.

"Every time that he ever did anything for the kids, he did 100%. And that's all he ever cared about was the kids," says Steve May. May is the president of the Holmes County Quarterback Club. He says Hawkins was very active in recruiting members. "In fact, his favorite saying that if you've ever known Bobby Hawkins was always 'are you in or are you out?'

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is still trying to find out who murdered Hawkins. Although they haven't made any arrests, they say they have several persons of interest.

The family just wants closure and justice.

"It's not supposed to happen this way," John Hawkins says.

A memorial service for Bobby Hawkins will take place this Sunday at 1:30pm at the Vernon Community Center.
