Gunpoint Robbery and Several Stolen Vehicles: Suspect in Custody

According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, deputies in another Florida county have arrested an armed robbery suspect.

TCSO says authorities in Merritt Island in Brevard County, FL arrested 40-year-old Kenneth Wood Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m.

Deputies say he was in a stand-off with the Swat Team before being arrested.

Wood is accused of robbing the Johnson and Johnson Shell gas station in Taylor County off of S. Byron Butler Parkway.

Charges against him in Taylor County are pending.

This subject was taken into custody at approx. 2030 hours last night in Merritt Island Florida without incident.

Taylor County, FL - On January 8th at approximately 2:15 the Johnson and Johnson Shell Station located at the intersection of CR-30 and US 19 was robbed at gunpoint.

A w/m 40’s 5-11 stocky build brown hair with a black knit cap produced a handgun and received an undisclosed amount of cash from the cashier. The subject then left south bound on US 19 in a GMC Sierra truck.

A short time later a Patrol Deputy from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office caught up to the vehicle which was still South bound on US 19 North of Salem, Florida. The subject fled from the Deputy and abandoned the vehicle near the intersection of Fish Creek Grade and US 19 in Salem. The GMC truck was identified as having been reported stolen out of Covington County, Alabama recently.

The subject fled on foot and an area search was initiated that included the use of K-9’s. A handgun was recovered near the truck that was believed to have been used in the robbery.

At approximately 5:00, a call was received of an occupied residential burglary near the area where the truck was abandoned and a Chevrolet Tahoe was reported stolen from that residence.

An area BOLO was issued for the vehicle and a short time later the vehicle was spotted in Cross City, Florida by a Dixie County Sheriff’s Deputy. The subject again pulled off US 19 and fled on foot.

A short time later another vehicle was reported stolen near that location in Cross City and at this time the vehicle and subject are at large.

The suspect in this case is believed to have been involved in numerous similar cases in Florida and other states.

The investigation in Taylor County has led to the possible identity of the subject.
