News Release: Madison County Sheriff's Office
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Sunday March 30, 2014 at 8:44 PM, deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Madison Police Department to assist in locating a vehicle that was recently involved in a Hit and Run incident at Gibson Mobile Home Park.
A short time later a deputy located the vehicle that was suspected to be involved in the Hit and Run traveling North on State Road 53 outside of the City Limits. The deputy notified officers with the Madison Police Department and then conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle.
While awaiting MPD officers to arrive at the scene of the traffic stop, the deputy identified the driver as Detrick Deon McIntyre of Madison. The deputy detected a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from within the vehicle and asked McIntyre to exit the vehicle. The Deputy noted that McIntyre was unsteady on his feet and had trouble maintaining his balance. When McIntyre was asked if he had recently been drinking alcohol, McIntyre stated that he drank “4 or 5 beers and some shots”.
MPD officers arrived on-scene and conducted an interview with McIntyre. After the interview was completed, the deputy began a DUI investigation. McIntyre was asked to perform a series of standardized field sobriety exercise to determine his ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. McIntyre agreed and attempted each exercise however was unable to successfully complete them.
McIntyre was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Madison County Jail where he provided a breath sample of .083 and .082.
