Assault Rifle Found During Public Intoxication Arrest

On Saturday, September 21, 2013, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported suspicious person near Bass Pro Shops on Lagniappe Way.

When deputies arrived they observed Travis S. Dean, 27, standing in the middle of the road holding an open bottle of Brandy, mumbling to himself. Dean was detained and subsequently arrested for disorderly intoxication.

When deputies searched Dean’s backpack they discovered a loaded AK-74(a semi-automatic variant of the AK-47), a loaded thirty round magazine and additional ammunition. Deputies were told the firearm was for protection against bears that live near Dean’s home.

Dean was taken to the Leon County Jail.
