PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly dragged a pit bull on a leash with his SUV.
Officers in Palm Bay were dispatched to the scene at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to police, officers located the vehicle in a McDonald's parking lot. The dog had injuries to his paws and side from being dragged and was in serious condition.
Authorities identified the driver of the SUV as 45-year-old Christopher A. Byrd and charged him with animal cruelty, among other charges.
Animal Control officials have taken possession of the dog. It appears he will survive.
