News Release: Midway Police Department

A traffic stop on Interstate 10, in Midway, leads to a felony drug bust. While a Midway police officer was concluding a traffic stop in the west bound lanes of I-10, he noticed a gray Buick sedan fail to move over or slow down for his stopped patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated. The officer then proceeded to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and once contact was made with the driver, the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle.

After questioning the driver, he admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in his pocket. A subsequent search of the inside of the vehicle yielded approximately 20 baggies containing marijuana residue, a digital scale, a rolled marijuana cigarette, a firearm target with multiple bullet holes, and a box of .40 caliber ammunition. During a search of the trunk, the officer located a large clear plastic bag containing approximately 60 grams of marijuana, and two .40 caliber semi-automatic handguns.

The driver, 28 year old Erik Adams, was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Gadsden County Jail charged with possession of marijuana more than 20 grams. The driver was also cited for failing to move over for emergency vehicle.
