DECATUR, Ga. (AP) -- A metro Atlanta man who stole an ambulance with two paramedics inside has pleaded guilty to false imprisonment, theft and interference with government property.

WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/PyBFAU) 37-year-old Frank Ponquinette appeared in court Thursday and was sentenced to five years in prison with two to serve behind bars.

Ponquinette's attorney Tim Cook told the court that his client was dehydrated and delirious when he sped off in the ambulance in June of 2013.

Prosecutors say the man left Emory Hospital wearing a hospital coat and purple gloves and climbed into an ambulance that was parked in front.

Assistant District Attorney Shannon Hodder says the man noticed two paramedics in the back and told them they better hang on before he began driving erratically and hit several objects.
