Neighborhood Crime Rating Tools

By: Amy Long Email
By: Amy Long Email, compared FBI crime statistics and data from the U.S. Department of justice to pin point crime hot spots.

According to the site, Tallahassee received a 6 out of 100, 100 being the safest. Meaning, the capital city is safer than only 6% of the cities in the U.S.

However, the Tallahassee Police Department says they cannot trust the sites information because there is no way to know when or how the data was collected, but do offer another one stop shop to find crime information.

Dave McCranie, TPD Spokesperson says, "We already know that the population index is incorrect because it lists Tallahassee at 150,000 resident and we know our population is greater than that. We encourage ever citizen to go to and you can click on TOPPS Tallahassee Online Police Statistics and you can see what's going on in your neighborhood fist hand. Then, you make the decision whether you think your neighborhood is safe of not." also says your chances of being a victim in Tallahassee is 1 in 96. And a 1 in 16 chance of falling victim to property crime.

I just want to know what makes some crime reports news and others go unstated! Is there an audition you must go through to get accurate posts out there about what is really happening around our city?

Odd, but a search of the site does not find anything to do with something called TOPPS

McCrainie is full of it, for crying out loud, there is a bank robbery almost once a week! This isn't the only study that gave Tallahassee poor ratings.

Two weeks ago my son's bike was stolen out of our garage and when I went to the police dept. to file a report, the officer looked at me like I was crazy for wasting everyone's time reporting an "unsolvable" crime like that. Tallahassee has changed so much over the years and there is an unbelievable amount of crime here now.
