On June 17, 2011 at about 2:25am, a current FSU student reported that he was robbed near the Housewright Music Building as he walked home. The victim reported that he was approached by four subjects who got out of a car, one of whom held a knife and demanded his belongings. The victim complied and the suspects fled.

The victim described the suspects as follows:

Four black males one of whom was about 5 ft 10 in in height with dreadlock style hair. The males were reported to be in a late model blue Honda Civic. No other description was available to police.

The FSU Police Department is actively investigating this case and requests any information that may be available concerning events related to this incident. Information may be reported anonymously via Big Bend Crime Stoppers by calling 850 574 TIPS. Remember, with Crime Stoppers you do not have to give your name and you may be eligible for a reward of up to $1000.

Crime Prevention Tips

1. Criminals will often seek to isolate victims. Avoid walking alone at night or in isolated areas.

2. Stay in well lighted areas that are populated by other people who may be potential witnesses. This may discourage a criminal.

3. Avoid carrying large sums of cash or wearing obvious expensive items, such as jewelry. Valuables can appear enticing to a robber.

4. In the event that you are robbed, remember, items can be replaced. If a robber demands property, compliance with property demands can be a factor in avoiding injury.

5. Always call police when a person or situation appears suspicious. If something appears suspicious to you, then it will to the police as well. When in doubt, have it checked out.

6. When you go out, tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return. In the event that you are late, someone will know to look for you or contact authorities.

The sad part is is that the bill that would have allowed concealed campus on carry had that part of the legislation ripped because it would make campuses dangerous. I say just buy an ankle holster, a snubbie .357 or .38 and call it a day. This reminds me of the case where 4 guys with a shotgun robbed a couple of people in a parking lot on FSU campus. No guns on campus worked very well at V-tech.

"We want our campus safe, so no guns, even in vehicles." sez the Academic Overlords. Which means when I go to Strozier Library, I have to leave the house unarmed, which means I have to return home unarmed, usually late. I live WAY out in the boonies, and could easily be targeted by locals when I return home. The interesting part is that the compassionate, sensitive, intelligent and highly evolved profs and bureaucrats that craft university policy do not give a hoot what happens to me on OR off campus -- they just don't like guns and obviously consider me highly expendable...

Onto a more intelligent response. You shouldn't be wondering around FSU campus after midnight by yourself. In particular on the Copeland ST area, much more open people to be out and about. The music building area is quite dark and architectural a little different/there is some small areas that make it easy for a hold up. Use some common sense, Frenchtown and the lower income housing areas is next to FSU, some of these people wonder around here looking for college students to beg for change etc. I was trying to do some reading outside one of the dorms the other day and a homeless person trying to hide his beer gave me a story about how he is starving.

Psa 10:1 ¶ Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? [why] hidest thou [thyself] in times of trouble? Psa 10:2 The wicked in [his] pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined. Psa 10:3 For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, [whom] the LORD abhorreth. Psa 10:4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after God]: God [is] not in all his thoughts. Psa 10:5 His ways are always grievous; thy judgments [are] far above out of his sight: [as for] all his enemies, he puffeth at them. Psa 10:6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for [I shall] never [be] in adversity. Psa 10:7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue [is] mischief and vanity.Psa 10:8 He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. Psa 10:9 He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net. Psa 10:10 He croucheth, [and] humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

Unpossible!! I have read many times, right on this web site, that there is no reason for people to have any means to protect themselves. Just dial 911, the police are are just minutes much damage can four men do to one man in one minute?

That is why a gun went with me everyday I went to campus. But I also did not make myself a target at 2:00 am either. They outlaw guns on campus but the thugs roam campus like it is their playhouse with knives and guns. FSU PD is pathetic.

Police are only minutes away when seconds count.

As much as this thugs need to be found and arrested and then smacked across the head a few time. Walking alone at 230am is not a very good idea

They dont need no summit, they got armed robbery to fall back on!!!
  • by 1 1 = 7 ??? on Jun 17, 2011 at 10:47 AM
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE GUYS?? Don't they know that armed robbery is illegal, and by doing so, they could be arrested and charged with a crime and incarcerated in a prison? They should have attended the summit at the library the other day. And this happened at our fine university that teaches higher learning so why weren't they in class? Maybe FSU and FAMU could offer these misguided young men some scholarships to help them on the path to becoming law abiding citizens. And they should be glad that FSU PD was to busy preaching crime prevention tips to new students to be actively patrolling their campus to keep our fine young man from offering their ungodly possessions to want to be students.

Oh, these people don't go to the school! They rob idiots like you that are vulnerable and don't rely on mommy to tell them how to be safe! You better wake up quick and face the real world because you are obviously living in a fairy land!

Oh Yes, that was sarcasm at it's most extreme. Rest assured, If I go onto Campus, I am armed regardless of the law. Better to get arrested and be alive versus Being Legal and DEAD. I'll do the time, thank you

Welcome to the jungle of Tallahassee. Pedator vs the prey. All communities have pedators. These people are conniving 24 hours a day to find the weakest or most vulnerable prey to take advantage of. They want you and/or your stuff.

Yes Jim, and they know just exactly where to go to get what they want. It is sooooo nice of FSU - and the state - to provide such a welcoming environment for these people. Dang shame for the people paying to be there though - oh well, they get what they settle for.
