FSU Alert - Feb. 1, 2012 -

On January 31, 2012 at about 8pm, the FSU Police Department responded to a report of a “fight” outside the front doors of Kellum Hall. Upon arrival, officers ascertained that the incident was in fact, a strong-arm robbery. The victim advised that just prior to the robbery, he had just sold a phone that he had advertised on Craigslist, and the sale took place near the FSU Bookstore. The victim said that while the sale transaction went smoothly, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that a male was watching. After the sale, the victim put the sale money in his wallet and jogged home to Kellum Hall. As he approached the front door, he noted the male was behind him. The victim told police that the male asked, “Do you want to buy some weed?”. The victim refused and took as he took his door swipe entry card out, the suspect’s eyes were fixated on his wallet. The suspect then suddenly grabbed the victim’s wallet and phone, and the victim grabbed the suspect’s wrist and went to the ground. As the victim called for assistance, the suspect kicked the victim, gained control of the wallet and fled. Witnesses who were nearby witnessed portions of the incident and gave statements to police. There is information that the suspect ran into two unidentified white females as he fled, who may also be witnesses. Police have not linked the Craigslist transaction to the robbery at this time, although this possibility is being examined as part of the investigation. No weapons were displayed or implied during this offense.

The FSU Police Department is actively investigating this case and other steps including, but not limited to, increased patrols around residence halls are being taken. This case does not appear related to other recent strong-arm robberies reported to the FSUPD. Certain other operations are being conducted by the FSUPD as well, however details cannot be conveyed publicly at this time.

The description of the suspect varies according to the victim and witnesses:

Victim description of suspect – Male, black, HT 5’10”, stocky build, full lips/mouth, short hair, about 1”-2” long, wearing a thick flannel type jacket and shorts.

Witness 1 description of suspect – Male, black, HT 5’8” – 5’10”, wearing a jacket and jeans.

Witness 2 description of suspect – Male, black, HT 5’9”, wearing blue shorts, white undershirt, multicolored jacket, and a necklace.

Really do not understand why there aren't more security safeguards in place for this particular campus. There should be guards at access gates with fences along with metal detecting equipment and photo ids required for entry. It might cut down on robberies and some violence on campus. As to pointing fingers at any one particular group of people for violence and crime-stop it. Don't accept negative behavior from any quarter.

Everybody who truly can sit around and point finger at the suspect but ain't no body perfect we all make mistakes and learn from them we forgive and forget we all stay in tallahassee so why go against one another and we would go around robbing and stealing if the world wasn't so messed up and they keep tking money Away from those who truly need the help.... It's not us it's the government holding us against the odds let us be equal and stay that way.....!!!!! And the racist comments on raping blacks always been the gettig blamed maybe Martin Luther king jr didn't make it clear we should not be judged by the color of our skin It's black history month we need to wake up Nd realize everyone only got one life why discriminate and hate each judge!!!!! Love before you police go lying on blacks!

Perhaps you need to learn, besides just fundamental basic language skills, that there is a pretty big difference between a forcible felony and a mistake. By the way, that lack of understanding is not the governments fault. Neither is it the governments fault that a segment of the population sees robbery as a more attractive option than earning what they want out of life. . . . and you wonder (as best I can tell your language skills make it really difficult to tell) why racism is still in existence. How sad for you.

You should be judged by your character...but when your race commits 50% of all violent crime but yet only make up 15% of the entire population....its hard not to jugde you by your skin color. The govt isnt holding you against anything...its your ability to remove yourself from their control in the way of handouts and foodstamps, that is blocking your release.

See. Cell phones cause robberies as well as brain cancer.

Somebody flashes money publicly, and gets robbed. The robber just grabs the wallet and is successful. Sounds like, lesson learned. The bulk of the comments that resort to racism? yes yes, we know, you say it every time; what's your point?

You can carry a weapon without carrying a firearm.

Assuming I do not misread the relevant statutes -- nope, not on ANY public school grounds, and that includes vehicles driving through or parked on campus. No knives, sprays, clubs, electrical devices or even garden tools -- unless administrators create policy otherwise.

The government posts big signs on campus no weapons allowed. Now if you were a crook where would you go to rob someone?

Big difference between once in a while as opposed to 1000 a day. Even if you were right in your statement about white men and sex crimes (check stats as you seem to be full of them). You will see they are wrong...specially if you consider families sexualy molesting their young teen girls for athe extra must be one of these 'cuz' understand?

You're right. Violent sexual molestation isn't race -related. Typically the victim and offender are the same race. Also, black people represent 12.2% of the American population, but 25% of the child abusers, and 28% of the sexual assault convictions. However, white people are 63.7% of the American population, but 51% of child abusers and 68% of sexual assault convictions. While I don't have any stats handy, FSU crime alerts are overwhelmingly black offenders. On the bright side, you can definitely blame white people for destroying the economy. Or you could just not sink to the bigot's level.
