Tallahassee, Florida - June 14, 2011 - 1pm -

Tallahassee Police officers responded to the 2400 block of North Monroe Street at approximately 6:20 PM on June 12th, in response to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located 22 year old Wesley Dobson inside the Shell gas station, with a gunshot wound to the face. Officers determined Dobson had been shot during an altercation with an occupant in another vehicle at the intersection of North Monroe Street and Lakeshore Drive then drove to the Shell for help. Officers rendered aid and Dobson was transported to TMH by ambulance.

Follow-up investigation has led to the arrest of Christopher Coutino for Attempted Homicide and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Investigators have determined Dobson and Coutino had an argument outside a nearby restaurant. The two separated prior to a physical confrontation, and both entered their vehicles and drove away.

Both vehicles were traveling northbound on North Monroe Street and came to a stop at the red-light at Lakeshore Drive. Dobson exited his vehicle and approached the passenger's side of Coutino's vehicle, where he began yelling, pointing fingers, and being very animated towards the occupants. Coutino then shot Dobson in the face, made a U-turn and fled from the area. Dobson pulled into the parking lot of the Shell gas station, where officers located him.

Dobson remains at TMH in stable condition. Coutino turned himself in at the Tallahassee Police Department last night, where he was arrested and transported to the Leon County Jail.

A man drove several blocks to a Shell Station located at North Monroe and Allen Road. Police said he was shot in the face after an altercation minutes earlier.

Officers said Dobson and the person who shot him, know each other through a third party. A friend of the Clerk who helped the victim spoke of his friends reaction.

" I mean I see him in the store, and he has blank on his face. Like he has no idea what is going on," Wille Mitchell Said.

The manager of the Shell station, Nina Howell said she is proud of the way her employee handled the situation.

" Well we've never had this happen before. Not really. Basically what he did, called 911. And you know, tried to take care of the situation the best he could."

Dobson remains at TMH and the investigation is ongoing.

how was chris coutino allowed to post bail?!?! How can someone shoot someone else IN THE HEAD and be allowed to post bail?!?! How come Chay Hickle didn't get arrested too? I guess if chris can shoot Wesley in the head, and still go free, then Chris's girl-friend Chay Hickle can go around asking her boyfriend to shoot people in the head as long as she wants with no fear of punishment. All Chay has been burdened with is coming up with the money to post Chris's bail, and Chris spending a few weeks in jail. such a major set back huh. I'm praying for you Wes. -friend 4rm wrk

since the shooter, chris coutino, is charged with soliciting and conspire to murder (www.floride.arrests.org) then who solicited him to shoot wesley?

I know for a fact that Wes was on drugs. He was also on Five years probabtion when this incident happened. He was also on drugs when him and his ex-girlfriend came to my house and litteraly kick in the front door. The ambuliance rushed my ex to the hospital with a head wound from Wes. Or was he not high when he threw up in the back of the police car after being arrested or was he not high when the police almost tased him. I know the wrath a Wes personaly and if he gets away with this he is still prison bound. One day hes going to be sitting with his brother in WCI.

Meagan, all of this stuff you are mentioning happened in 2007? People do grow up and change. How can you guarantee that Wes was high? Did you actually witness him doing drugs right before this incident? I know Wes personally also. I know that Wes has a temper. How do you know it was Wes' gun that he got shot with and not Christopher's? Seems like you KNOW a lot of things when you didn't actually witness ANYTHING! I don't know the circumstances, I don't know what happened. So, I can't say who was at fault here. I've heard Wes' side of the story, but there are always two sides. Regardless, if Wes didn't have a gun, knife or some type of weapon that he was threatening Christopher with, then Christopher was in the wrong for shooting him.

COULD THE GIRLFRIEND OF CHRIS, CHANTYLE HICKLE, BE CHARGED WITH ANYTHING? since she is the "third-party link" between chris and wesley.

if wesley was on drugs, and sent someone to the hospital, how come he was only booked on a break in? so you are saying that if you have words with someone, and that someone tells their boyfriend to shoot you, does that mean you deserve to be shot? how many times have you said something that someone didn't like? it doesn't mean you deserve to be shot? two people's lives are ruined for the rest of their lives, all because of chantyle hickle.

"as it is to your knowledge" that it was wesley's gun and not chris coutino's that he got shot with? do you know something that the cops don't? if you do then you need to report it, since the COPS stated that Chris is being charged with shooting wes. not wes charged with attempted suicide. wesley has one conviction on FLORIDA.ARRESTS.ORG and chris coutino has MULTIPLE FELONY arrests. chris has been charged with selling drugs! so who is the druggie now. the shooter's girl friend has also been charged multiple times for selling drugs as well. why are these people able to walk the streets and continue to hurt people?

could the girl-friend of chris coutino, who is the 'third party link' between coutino and dobson, be charged with anything?

This seems like a case that is repeated all too often in the state of Florida. The law is quite clear and well written regarding the right to defend oneself. The "castle doctrine" applies to a person in their vehicle just as it would in their home. (Sadly, It took a case of someone being arrested for shooting a car-jacker to get this aspect added to the doctrine). Time and time again, someone acting completely lawfully and doing the only reasonable thing to protect life, has to answer for their lawful action by being subject to arrest, being held in custody, exhausting all of their resources in order to "prove their innocence". This is the opposite of how our legal system was intended to work. When you protect yourself from an assailant, you should be focused on the threat posed by the attacker and not how you will protect yourself from a legal system that presumes all use of force to be unlawful.

dobson wasn't attacking coutino. he was 'yelling and pointing fingers.' coutino was following dobson and dobson got tired of it and faced coutino like a man. seems like coutino was all talk and got scared when dobson stood his ground.

I dont think its Tallahassee that is so stupid. It is the hood rats we cannot rid of. The perpetrator was waiting on the victim when he got off work with a gun! The victim tried to drive away. There is no law against an argument. There is however a law that states no felon should have a gun. If you have a gun youre planning on using it! Threatened? Please. Dumb kid was waiting on a chance to use his lil ole gun and found it. Now he WILL be convicted of attempted murder and felon posession of a firearm. Whoever thinks there were any means of trying to kill someone should be and probably will be locked up at some point in their life. He shot to kill. If the victim didnt survivethis kid would still be out on the streets looking for any stupid reason to pull the trigger. Doesnt matter if he turned hiumself in. Fact is hes getting locked up for a long time. No lesser sentence will be given. If anyones stupid it is the felon driving around with a gun starting arguments. JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL!

The victim (Dobson) tried to drive away? Oh and then, at a stoplight in the middle of the street, Dobson "exited his vehicle and approached the passenger's side of the shooter's (Coutino) vehicle, where he began yelling, pointing fingers, and being very animated towards the occupants." We may not know yet what actually was said, but we do know that that is when Coutino shot Dobson. "Victim Dobson" was asking for trouble. The only thing that Coutino should be found guilty of is Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

chris coutino is already a convicted felon? he started the confrontation. coutino confronted dobson. dobson drove away. coutino followed dobson. dobson got out of his car to tell coutino to quit following him. coutino is a thug i guess so thought he could be cool like his friends if he shoot someone

everyone keeps asking "why did wesley get out of the car instead of driving to the police station." but why isn't anyone asking why did chris coutino show up where wesley was in the first place? and why did chris follow wesley? and why didn't CHRIS just drive away when wesley got out of his car, instead of shooting him?

wesley got out of his car because he didn't want the shooter to follow him home where wesley's family lives! yes he should have called the police right away, but chris should not have followed him, nor shown up in the first place. put the blame where it belongs.

Dobson could have driven to the police station (a few more blocks up Monroe Street), instead of going home. He did not have to get out of his vehicle and engage again in a confrontation with Coutino.

you are right. he should have called the cops or drove to the station. but he didn't... and in the heat of the moment people aren't thinking rationally, and wesley clearly did not think chris and chris' girlfriend would shoot him in the middle of traffic
