Tallahassee Murder Still Unsolved Six Years Later

UPDATED 10.26.2011 by Julie Montanaro

A Tallahassee murder remains a mystery six years later.

Sylvester Davis's murder has never been solved but his family says it will never give up hope that his killer will be caught.

"What happens in the dark will come to light."

Sylvester Davis's family and friends gathered in prayer at his grandmother's house. They prayed for comfort and prayed for an arrest in his still unsolved murder.

"God will work it out and I just pray that whoever did this will come to justice," said Davis's sister Diva Gainous.

Davis was killed in his home on Arnold Street on October 26th 2005. The city parks and rec worker didn't show up for work at the Dade Street Community Center and Tallahassee Police have never made an arrest in his murder.

"I have more hope than I have money and I'm never gonna give up," Davis's mother Helen Gainous said. "Closure is the best thing anybody could ever have."

Each year on the anniversary of his death, Davis's family tries to make something good of something bad. This year it is helping to repaint, refurbish and refurnish the home of a disabled widow in the neighborhood.

"This is what we're going to do in the memory of Sylvester," Helen Gainous said.

Tallahassee Police say this case is cold, but not closed.
