Press Release: Leon County Sheriff’s Office

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Financial Crimes Unit arrested 44 year old Stephen Brown on May 29, 2013, on Fraud and Grand Theft charges. Information obtained during the investigation shows a history of Brown operating an organized fraud scheme.

Brown has posed as a sales representative of several companies, selling items such as furniture, electronics and office products. Brown conducts himself in a professional manner and appears to be knowledgeable regarding the various products he “sells”.

Brown collects money when the “orders” are placed from individuals; however, he fails to provide the products. Brown is known to have run his scam in Alabama, Georgia and the Leon County area. Brown is also known to post ads on Craigslist, as recent as May 2013.

It is believed there are additional law enforcement agencies working cases that involve victims of Brown’s fraudulent practices and additional victims locally.

Anyone who has conducted business transactions with Brown in Leon County is requested to contact the Financial Crimes Unit at (850) 922-3400.

Brown is currently in the Leon County Jail on charges of Grand Theft (4 counts) and Organized Scheme to Defraud.
