Press Release: Leon County Sheriff's Office

On March 27, 2013 at 5:00pm golfers on Hilaman Park Golf Course heard two gun shots in close proximity and responded to investigate.

When the golfers arrived at the location of the shots, they discovered two deceased females and a handgun. The golfers called 911 for assistance and remained on scene until uniformed deputies arrived. The responding deputies discovered the bodies of 22 year old Jenna Porter and 3 year old Scarlett Porter.

A crime scene perimeter was established and detectives were called to the scene. Crime Scene Detectives responded and processed the scene for physical and forensic evidence while Violent Crimes Detectives canvassed the neighborhood and conducted witness interviews.

Detectives learned that Jenna and Scarlett Porter lived at 1411-A Ramble Brook (the apartment closest to where they were discovered). Based on the information obtained from witness statements and the corroborating physical evidence, Detectives have determined that Jenna Porter shot and killed her daughter Scarlett and then took her own life with the handgun located on the scene.

Preliminary results from autopsies performed today indicated both Jenna and Scarlett each died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Tallahassee, FL - The bodies of two female victims that had been shot were found behind a Tallahassee apartment complex today.

"When I heard what happened, I just walked around because the back end of the golf course here and then I saw the deceased and it just stopped me in my place," Ray Parsons, Lives in Neighborhood, said.

What is normally a quiet apartment complex that borders Hilaman Golf Course off of Blair Stone Road and Ramble Brook, turned into the scene of a crime around 5:00PM Tuesday night when golfers who were playing, heard gunshots and went to see what happened.

According to LCSO Spokesman, Lt. James McQuaig, "here at the back of the Wispering Woods apartment complex, they discovered the bodies of 2 deceased females, that's really all the information I have available at this time. We are continuing to investigate. We're in the very early stages of this investigation, but we are treating it accordingly."

McQuaig also states the 2 bodies were found outside and adjacent to the apartment building and were not alive when law enforcement arrived. He says "they are canvassing the neighborhood, conducting witness interviews and crime scene detectives are on scene and they are collective forensic evidence."

Randria Walker has lived in the Wispering Woods apartment complex for 4 months and says she was asleep when the shooting happened. She says she is now considering moving and also states "I was in shock because it's so quiet out here."

Parson says he has not heard of incidents like this happening in the past and wishes there was something he could have done to prevent it. He states "It made me feel sad because she is lying on the ground and there's nothing she could do for herself and that's kind of shocking."

The Medical Examiner has been contacted and autopsies will be performed tomorrow and LCSO is continuing investigate.
