Valdosta, GA -- October 24, 2011 --
On October 24, 2011, around 2:00 am, the Valdosta Police Department responded to a shooting incident at 1707 N. Forrest Street.
Malcom Carter, the victim, who drove himself to South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC), told officers that he was flagged down by an African-American male in the parking lot of the Liberty Gas Station on 1707 N. Forrest Street. Carter said the man approached his vehicle and started shooting at him. Carter then drove off and realized that he had been shot in the upper chest near his right shoulder. That's when he started driving toward the hospital.
Valdosta Police Department Detectives and a Crime Scene Technician from the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Lab responded to investigate. Carter’s vehicle was towed for processing and there were what appeared to be bullet holes in the vehicle.

Carter is being treated at SGMC and is expected to recover from his wound. The case is under investigation and there is no other information available at this time.
