[UPDATE] 2/4 at 5:58 p.m. by Gabrielle Sarann--
A quiet neighborhood in Valdosta was anything but Friday morning.
"[They] called dispatch to let them know there had been a shooting, an officer had been hit," said Lt. Aaron Kirk, with the Valdosta Police Department.
After a VPD drug agent was shot at 803 Ponderosa Drive.
"After the scene was secured, the crime scene investigation unit went in," said LT Kirk. He added, "Marijuana and [ecstasy] was located inside the residence and it was seized."
The officer was serving a search warrant, when suddenly shots were fired from inside the home, striking him in the hand.
He was later released from the hospital.
But the incident comes as no surprise to many.
"There's enough noticeable stuff going on here," said Randy Conkin, of Valdosta, who works in the area. "You could drive down the road and see people tucked around the corner of a house and they're staring at you as you drive by because they're hoping that you keep moving."
And it's not the first time an investigator was injured this week. Just two days ago, a Lowndes County deputy was attacked at an area McDonald's restaurant intercepting a domestic dispute. He was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center and released the same day with non-life threatening wounds.
Neighbor Chantel Arrington said, "A police officer's job is something hard. But someone has to do it to make sure that justice is served and that we're protected."
But Natasha Wilson, who just moved to the neighborhood, said of an officer's job "Safe? In my opinion, no, I wouldn't. But you have to have people to uphold the law or stuff would be bad all the time."
Valdosta Police say the shooter Javon McCloud, 27, is in custody.
And the drug agent, who's identity has not been revealed, was released from South Georgia Medical Center
