ACLU: Appeal Unneeded to End Florida Gay Adoption Ban

Miami, FL (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union says no appeal
to the Florida Supreme Court is necessary to bring a final end to
the state's ban on gay adoptions.
ACLU attorneys said Thursday a state appeals court ruling that
the adoption ban is unconstitutional applies statewide. Gov.
Charlie Crist also said based on that ruling the state would no
longer enforce the three-decade-old ban that is the nation's
strictest.
The ACLU and gay parent Martin Gill are urging Crist to let the
case end to prevent more legal uncertainty. Crist officials say no
decision has been made on a state Supreme Court appeal.
The 3rd District Court of Appeal on Wednesday upheld a lower
court's finding that there is "no rational basis" for the gay
adoption ban.
