A candidate for congress was Monday's guest speaker at the Capital Tiger Bay Club.
Steve Southerland is running for Florida Congressional District Two.
During the afternoon event at the Civic Center, he spoke about the importance of creating jobs, changes he'd like to see with health care reform, and fielded questions from the audience.
"I've never been elected to office before but I do know the people," said Southerland. "I know their concerns and their hurts and I think that would be good for not just this district but good for our country."
Republican candidate Southerland is running for a seat that's been dominated by Democrat representation for years.
In November, Southerland will face seven-term Democratic incumbent Congressman Allen Boyd.
