New Leon County Hazardous Waste Site

Tallahassee, FL - Local officials are trying to keep used household products out of hamrs way. On Tuesday September 28, Leon County officials held an open house for the new Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center.
Residents can drop off items to recycle and dispose of toxic, flammable and corrosive materials at the center, which is located at the Solid Waste Management Facility on Apalachee Parkway.
Richard Lobinske/Household Hazardous Waste Manager says,"Thank you to the citizens of Leon County for wanting to do the right thing, for wanting to properly handle all of these material they have around their houses, or their businesses. That's why we're here, because the citizens of this county wanted it."
Leon County also holds free monthly collection events The next event is this coming Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Public Works Operations Center.

    Thats nice. Why wasn't the previous site adequate for Hazmat collection? Better yet, why don't they allow the residents to drop off hazmat at the satellite facilities? When they started to require the items to be taken to the main (old ) landfill the majority of it started going into residential waste, and they kow it. One thing you can always bet on, the ability of Leon County to come up with the ability to justify spending your tax money in some of the most ludicrous ways.

    I just throw em in the garbage. They can get them out at that nice facility they have on Gum Rd.
