Tallahassee, FL - When Tallahassee Probation Officer Jennefer Thurber received information that one of her probationers was involved in drug and firearm activity, she enlisted the help of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit and the U.S. Marshal’s Service for a search of the offender’s residence Wednesday, September 29 that led to four arrests and the discovery of four shotguns in the house. Offenders on probation are not allowed to possess firearms.
Cleveland Copeland, 55, who was serving one year of Community Control supervision for the sale of cocaine, was arrested for violation of probation for possession of firearms, associating with those involved in criminal activity, and failing to answer all questions asked of him. When law enforcement arrived at 8 a.m., there were numerous individuals on the property. Also arrested were Hagman Greene B/M 2-4-67, Thomas Washington B/M 11-14-58 and James Wesley B/M 4-7-62, who each had outstanding warrants for their arrests. Copeland’s home and property are located on a large, wooded lot with two houses, several sheds, and two trailers near Chaires Cross Road.
Participating in the early morning search of the grounds and residence along with Thurber were: Correctional Probation Officers and Supervisors Richard Thiele, John Shephard, Gigi Haynes, Carlin Samples and Damien Jones. Detectives with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office ran warrants checks, made the arrests and transported the offenders to jail. U.S. Marshals Marty West and David Breese provided security during the search, and continue to provide resources and expertise while working closely with probation officers and other law enforcement on multi-agency operations.
