Pittsburgh, PA (AP) --
A Florida man will spend two years in federal prison for smuggling marijuana into that state after it was shipped to Pittsburgh from a Canadian source.
Twenty-six-year-old Viet Vuong Le, of Orlando, was sentenced
Friday, Oct. 1. He was convicted earlier this year of flying into
Pittsburgh to buy 25- to 60-pound loads and then returning in
rental cars to Florida from 2004 to 2008.
Federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh say the drugs Le bought came
from a Canadian group that began smuggling 300-pound loads of
high-grade, hydroponically grown marijuana into the United States.
Those drugs were hidden among legitimate cargo and earmarked for
Pittsburgh and several other cities.
Agents seized more than a $1 million in cash in three separate
seizures in the Pittsburgh area and Niagara Falls, N.Y. in 2008.
