ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- A Gulf coast area deputy reportedly
shot and wounded the driver of a sports utility vehicle.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports that the deputy
tried to pull over 25-year-old Brandon Elliot French around noon
Friday, but French sped off.

Following a short chase through a neighborhood, the deputy again ordered French to pull over.

The sheriff's office reports that French drove at the deputy twice.

The deputy responded by firing three shots into French's
SUV.

French was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in
stable condition.

He has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft auto and fleeing and eluding.
