May 20, 2011 - Noon -

The 25th Annual Florida Governor's Hurricane Conference wrapped up this morning.

57 of Florida's 67 counties participated in this year's conference, including emergency managers and public safety officials.

Seminars, workshops and exhibits filled the Broward County Convention Center this week to prepare those in attendance for the 2011 hurricane season.

Eyewitness News had the chance to talk with the new director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Bryan Koon. We talked about his first hurricane season as the head of the DEM and the fact that he thinks Floridians are very prepared for any disaster, not just hurricanes. The National Hurricane Season is predicting a busier than normal hurricane season.

We're just twelve days away from the start of hurricane season and 12 days away from our Hurricane Special show.

Maybe if we give these expected hurricanes maximum publicity we can spook most of our summer tourists away from Florida. Not exactly a "lets get to work" idea, huh, Gov?
