This year's theme, "Crowning Glory : My Hair, My Art, My Culture", celebrates the art of nurturing and maintaining natural hair, a holistic approach to taking care of body, mind and soul through the use of natural and organic products, and the celebration of African art and culture.
"Our goal is to help every expo attendee revitalize their mind, body and spirit through the ancient art of African hair care," said Valencia Jones, founder of Mandisa Ngozi, which she co-owns with her sister Denise. "Our emphasis will be on helping each patron to see their own reflection of beauty, naturally."
One of the most influential natural hair care specialists in the country, Jones' past and current client list includes Erykah Badu, George Clinton and Tyra Ferrell, best known as the mother of Morris Chestnut and Ice Cube in the critically acclaimed film Boyz N The Hood. Ferrell will make a special guest appearance at the expo.
New to this year's expo is a styling competition that will feature stunningly authentic hair designs by experienced natural hair artists. Stylists will have the opportunity to showcase up to five designs.
"We are extremely excited about this new addition to the expo because it gives stylists the opportunity to shine and showcase new hair designs," Jones said. "There is a natural hair revolution taking place all across the country, and we are at the forefront of changing the world's perception of our hair in its most simplistic, natural and healthiest state."
The Capital City Natural Hair & Health Expo will have over 35 Vendor participants from all over the United States at this year's exhibition.
