Fort Lauderdale, Florida - September 30, 2012
A South Florida family is mourning after a 3-year-old boy drowned in his grandmother's swimming pool while his relatives napped.
Broward Sheriff's officials said 3-year-old Metzden Cenord asked his mother Saturday if he could go into the bedroom to see his uncle. His mother said yes and watched the child walk to the other room but the uncle was napping so the child was left unsupervised.
Metzden went out a sliding-glass door and ended up in the pool. Family members saw his shoes floating on the surface of the pool.
His uncle pulled Metzden out and began CPR. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives are investigating the drowning.
The number one cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 in Broward County is drowning.
