40TH Annual Tallahassee Marathon Draws Big Crowd

Tallahassee, FL - Sunday started out early with runners getting set in place for a 7:30A.M. start. The runners say they've been training since last year for this race. "I have some great training partners and we're just out here to have fun and do our best," said Marci Gray, Half Marathon Runner.

After the National Anthem and an introduction by one of the directors it was off to the races for folks The 40TH Annual Tallahassee Marathon had the largest crowd on hand with 1300 runners signed up from 37 states. "We've got a fantastic core group of volunteers that work with us putting on the event. We really work for about nine to 10 months out of the year," said Nancy Stedman, Co-Marathon Director.

The runner had the option of running the half marathon or the full marathon. 850 people signed up for the half and 450 signed up for the full. "This year our half marathon filled up a few weeks before the race start and a lot of people were disappointed they couldn't get in, so register early next year," said Stedman.

After looping their way through Tallahassee the first batch of Half Marathon runners made their way in. "Feels pretty good put all of the hard work in, happy with the result," said Christian Vazquez, Half-Marathon Winner.

As mentioned 37 states were represented. Jeff Myres, who is from Indiana said he likes participating in marathons in the South this time of the year. "It's awesome it's nice to finally get out and run with out packing on gloves," said Myres.

Half of the proceeds from today's race went to the American Lung Association and the other half went to the Gulf Winds Track Club in Tallahassee.
